This Amazing shimmering geosphere is the icon of Epcot, and towers 180 feet above the park. Known as the “GOLF BALL” this geosphere houses the 16-minute ride Spaceship Earth. This 18-story continuous ride will take guests through the developments of communication starting with the cave man all the way to the present day space communication. Your time machine vehicles are interactive, so make sure you answer the questions and get ready to take you picture as you travel back to the past.

After your 16-minute time travel make sure you save time to spend time at Project Tomorrow. While in Project Tomorrow guests of all ages can be challenged games and informative displays that showcase the latest technologies in medicine, transportation and energy management.

As cool as the ride is the design of Spaceship Earth is just as cool. This geosphere was built with a unique drainage system in which the water is channeled and filled to the world showcase lagoon, so that rainwater never falls off the geosphere and on the guests. Rainwater is absorbed into the ball, and funneled into World Showcase Lagoon.

Other cool facts about Spaceship Earth is it is 165 feet in diameter, 180 feet high, and it stands 15 feet off the ground. Spaceship Earth weighs 15.5 million pounds, has an outside surface of 150,000 square feet, and is covered by 11,324-silvered facets on 954 triangular panels. The exterior tiles are made of Alucobond¨ material, a composite of ethylene plastic which has been chemically bonded between two aluminum panels. The name comes from ALUminum Composite BOND. This material can withstand the Florida climate and is self – cleaning.

This uniquely built geosphere is a must see for all the family to enjoy, so “Journey with us now to the dawn of recorded time…” it is well worth it.
